In this competition, I have learned more about biology-related issues. For instance, the Keto-diet, principles of vaccine and biometric authentication. It enhances my accomplishments in biology. Furthermore, it is a big challenge for me to prepare a presentation within thirty minutes. However, we have overcome that and done a great job. This really improves my confidence in challenging something new. I believed that equipping this skill would be possibly helpful in my future.

It is my honour to get the second runner-up in the Biology Literacy Award. First, I have to thank the school and my Biology teacher, Miss Wong Yan Yee, for giving us this opportunity to challenge ourselves and let us explore more. Miss Wong also helped us to practice and gave us many useful suggestions. It is one of the major reasons why we could get a great result. Besides, I need to thank my helpful teammates for giving me so much support.

Last but not least, I could know my weakness and strength after watching other competitors' performances. I will keep improving and try my best to get a better result in the future.

Lastly, I have to thank Miss Wong again for giving us this opportunity.

This competition broadened my horizons by having a competition with various schools. Impressive presentation that they have delivered; Inspiring questions that they arose; comprehensive response that they have made; their intelligence shown further reinforces the truth that there are always people who are better than me. Learning from other’s strengths and taking their weaknesses as the cautionary tale for oneself is indeed crucial. Furthermore, this experience reminds me of the key way to become the cream of the crop - stay humble, be passionate and determined and aspire to surpass them.

There is a quote from Henry Kaiser that I found thought-provoking: “Take the relish to be found in competition - in having put forth the best within you”. Never should we care about losing or winning, but maybe we should all bear in mind that it is the process that counts.

I had a great experience participating in the Biology Literacy Award. Not only did I increase my exposure to biological knowledge, STEM and new biotechnologies, I also realized the importance of teamwork. I see this event more as a chance of learning than a competition. I have definitely broadened my horizon when the other teams are presenting. They presented with excellent presentation skills and profound content.

It was a true honour for me to be one of the team members because this experience was wonderful. I have learnt to communicate with others by both listening and giving opinions, which could improve productivity and generate creative ideas.

Lastly, this was an unforgettable experience in my biology learning journey. I got a lot of exposure in various biology fields like diseases and food safety. This definitely enhances my interest in biology studies.

Never had I ever thought of the escalating development of biology in these days and ages. If I had not joined this competition, I wouldn’t have known more about biometric authentication, 4D printing and tissue engineering, as well as AI in biology. We really should learn to appreciate the effort made by scientists worldwide. Thanks to them, science can now generate solutions for everyday life and help us to answer the great mysteries of the organisms or even the universe!

So, what quality makes a great scientist? Albert Einstein once wrote and I quote,” The important thing is to never stop asking.” During the preparation time of the competition, I frequently asked myself “Why? Why is this important?” Questioning is like a trawling with a net. This idea of thinking allows me to reach deeper to form an opinion and find the evidence to support or oppose it. Through my own preparation and observation of other contestants, I genuinely feel that I have gained more than I have studied in textbooks. It is truly an unforgettable experience of widening my exposure in cutting-edge biological knowledge and innovation.
