Our students were invited by our alumni’s iGEM team, which is working on iGEM Competition this year, to attend synthetic biology workshop at CUHK. Our students conducted a series of experiments in Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building in CUHK. Thank you for their invitation and our students had a fruitful experience working on the biotechnology experiments and learnt about their iGEM project!
Form 5 Rai Swastika: Recently, we received an exclusive opportunity to participate in an iGEMer event conducted by iGEM team of CUHK. This workshop aims to enrich students’ knowledge in synthetic biology and cultivate student’s interest in the biomedical field. Needless to say, this experience did just that! From listening to intriguing presentations on iGEM and synthetic biology, to carrying out hands-on experience, there was never a dull moment. The team from CUHK was amiable, and gave us remarkable insights and gave us tips that you would only be aware of with experience. We familiarized ourselves with laboratory equipment and procedures such as carrying out a quite fascinating experiment by using micropipettes - gel electrophoresis. This was a really valuable experience, it was very interactive unlike the run-of -the -mill lectures. Everyone participated with alacrity and asked questions actively. We will cherish this experience and are very grateful for this opportunity. We are also incredibly grateful for and would like to give special thanks to our wonderful alumni who are in the iGEM team, they are, Wong Hoi-ting, who is currently in her second year of university in CUHK, and Dr. Lau Sin Nga, another alumni who is the Principal Lecturer & Associate Director (Undergraduate Education) in the School of Biomedical Sciences (CUHK) and Assistant Dean (Education) of the Faculty of Medicine (CUHK). |
